Cobus Potgieter founded the company in 1991. Within the past 15 year Cobus has also founded two other companies, The MSC Artisan Academy and Beyond Adventure. In 1998 MSC College he was the recipient of the Old Mutual Small Business of the Year Award in the Eastern Cape Region. In 2014 he was awarded as Business Leader of the Year by the Leadership Development Institute and Border Kei Chamber of Business Buffalo City. Cobus holds a Degree in Human Science and a BA Honours Degree in National Strategy.
Ketso Gordhan has a Master of Philosophy Degree from the University of Sussex. After working as advisor to Mac Maharaj in the Ministry of Transport from 1994, he was appointed Director General of the Department of Transport. Mr Gordhan has held positions as a Director of RMB Holdings,
the Manager of the City of Johannesburg and CEO of PPC Limited. In addition he is a Non–Executive Director of Life Healthcare Group Holdings Limited.
Depak Patel was part of the team at CODESA that negotiated the peaceful transition to a democratic society in South Africa. He was appointed as Director General of the National Department of Transport after the first democratic elections. He then took up a post at Standard Bank and held a number of Senior Executive positions, including that of Global Sector Head of the International Development Group. He is currently Chairman and CEO of Bamba Zonke, a trading and investment company operating in financial markets.
Glenda White holds Masters Degrees in Development Finance and Curriculum Evaluation from the Universities of London and Sussex respectively. Post 1994, she spent six years in government, first as Head of Policy Research for the first Premier of Gauteng Province and subsequently as Executive Director of the Centre for Public School Innovation. Glenda has consulted to a wide range of organisations, primarily in the areas of change management, programme design, monitoring & evaluation and business process management. She is currently a director of Siyandza Skills Development, an e-learning technology company; Simeka Capital Pharma, an investment company focused on the pharmaceutical sector; Simeka Group and Specpharm Holdings. She serves as the Chairperson of Themba Interactive, a not for profit organisation which uses applied drama therapy as a means of addressing social issues.
Carol has been CEO of MSC Business College for the past 15 years. Carol holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice (Cum Laude) from the Graduate School of Business at UCT. She also holds a Higher Diploma in Education as well as a Bachelor of Arts. She is a Qualified and Registered Assessor. She has served as an Education Committee Member for the Border Kei Chamber of Business over a period of two years.
Gillian has been with MSC Business College for a period of nine years. She holds various qualifications, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice (Cum Laude), a Diploma in Audit Specialisation, a Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA), a B. Compt and a B. Compt Honours Degree. Gillian has worked for 4 of the "Big 5" Accounting organisations where she gained extensive experience in auditing, tax, statistics, accounting and financial management. Her years as a Management Consultant bring in another set of skills highly relevant to this business. As a Management Consultant she reviewed systems and procedures in all aspects of a business (finances, asset management, change management etc.) and developed business performance improvement processes.
She began her professional life in the policy and research sector, developing policies to promote the small business sector, and advised the newly democratic government on a policy framework for SMEs in 1994. After obtaining her doctorate in a multi-disciplinary development studies programme at the University of Sussex, she entered the infrastructure investment arena, and worked on a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) infrastructure-led investment programme, which was aimed at stimulating investment in high potential economic zones in South Africa and the SADC region. This experience sparked her interest in what was then emerging as a new vehicle for funding large infrastructure projects, Public Private Partnerships, and she joined the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s Project Finance Unit, which funded many of the first PPPs in South Africa and the region.
In 2003 she co-founded and managed an investment and consulting company, where she spent several years in a small team, building up an investment portfolio in the agro-processing and built environment sectors. From early 2010 until the end of 2013, she served as the Managing Director of the Southern African office of a global development consulting company, DAI, which designed and implemented large, multi-year development programmes in the Southern African region, for donors, governments, and private clients.
Over the past few years she has served on a non-executive director on several company boards, including the DBSA, where she served 3 terms between 2006 and 2014. She was also a member of the first Presidential BEE Council, which advised the President on BEE policy, from 2009 until the end of 2014.
She now serve as a non-executive director on the Board of Basil Read Holdings, where she chairs the Remuneration committee, and is the Chairman of the non-profit enterprise development company Mondi Zimele, which finances small businesses in forestry areas around South Africa.
Claudia completed her BA (Hons) at the University of Natal in Durban, and has an M Phil and D Phil from the University of Sussex in the UK.
